  Bank of Palestine eyes Dubai

  Bank of Palestine aims to set up an overseas representative office in Dubai by 2013. The bank also plans to open a similar representative office in Chile this year. "Dubai is a natural choice for the bank," Hashim Shawa, chairman and general manager of Bank of Palestine told Gulf Business. Shawa added that the bank hopes to get a full banking licence in Dubai by 2015. Bank of Palestine is ranked at #72 in the CPI Financial 100. In fact, Bank of Palestine, as well as being the largest company in terms of financial assets and thus the largest bank in the country, was also Palestine’s first financial institution – founded in 1960 it commenced operations in February 1961, offering small business project loans and limited short-term personal loans. The bank now has more than 1100 employees and operates 49 branches and offices across the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
