  UAE's United Arab Bank obtains USD125mn club loan

  Sharjah-based United Arab Bank has secured a club loan worth USD125mn for general corporate purposes, a company statement said. The two-year facility, which can be extended to three years, was signed at a margin of 150 basis points over the London interbank offered rate (Libor). The loan was coordinated by Commerzbank, which also acted as lead arranger along with Standard Chartered Plc, Commercial Bank of Qatar, National Bank of Abu Dhabi and Emirates NBD.

  UK household finances worsen sharply in December

  Britons suffered the biggest deterioration in their finances in seven months in December and turned more downbeat about 2013, a survey showed. The Markit Household Finance Index fell to 36.8 - the lowest since May - from November's near two-year high of 39.3, sinking further below the 50 level that would mark no change in the financial situation compared with a month ago. Around a third of respondents said their finances had worsened in December, while only 6 percent reported an improvement. Overall, households also felt less secure in their jobs than in November.

  Oman central bank discusses Islamic instruments with ministry

  Oman's central bank is discussing the possible issuance of sukuk and other instruments which the country's new Islamic banking operations could use to manage their liquidity. "Central Bank of Oman has taken up with Ministry of Finance the matter of issue of Sukuk," central bank executive president Hamood Sangour Al-Zadjali said in emailed comments to Reuters. "Various details will be looked into," Zadjali added without elaborating.

  Qatar sets up new company to market petchem products

  Qatar has established a new company to market its petrochemical, fertilizer and steel products. In a statement, majority government-owned conglomerate Industries Qatar Industries said it was unveiling changes to the way it sold its products. The Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company, or Muntajat, would have "exclusive rights to purchase, market, distribute and sell the State of Qatar's production of chemical and petrochemical regulated products to the global market", the statement said. The new entity is expected to start operations in the first quarter next year.

  Qatar lifts 2013 economic growth, inflation outlook

  Qatar lifted its forecasts for economic growth and inflation next year, saying a decline in oil and gas output was now expected to be less than originally thought. Gross domestic product, adjusted for inflation, is now forecast to expand 4.8 percent in 2013, instead of the 4.5 percent which authorities predicted in June this year, the General Secretariat for Development Planning said. GDP is estimated to grow 6.3 percent in 2012. Consumer price inflation is now projected to rise to 3.5 percent in 2013 from 2.0 percent this year, the secretariat said in a statement. In June, it had predicted 2013 inflation of only 2.5 percent.

  Dubai's du secures USD500mn club facility to fund business

  Dubai's Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Co, or du, said that it had secured a USD500mn, five-year club debt facility to fund its medium-term capital expenditure. Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank acted as senior mandated lead arranger for the facility, with National Bank of Abu Dhabi and Samba Financial Group serving as mandated lead arrangers, the company said in a Dubai bourse filing. Mashreq Bank acted as co-arranger. Du said the club debt facility was priced at a 1.75 percent margin over the London Interbank Offered Rate.

  Saudi SABB recommends SAR1bn FY 2012 cash dividend

  Saudi British Bank, or SABB, said its board has recommended a full year cash dividend of SAR1bn (USD266.6mn) for 2012, paid at the rate of SAR0.92 per share. The dividend, pending shareholder approval, would be subject to the zakat charity deduction, the bank said in a statement posted on the Saudi stock exchange website.

  U.S. consumer sentiment slumped in December as Americans were rattled by on-going negotiations to avert the tax hikes and spending cuts set to come into effect in the new year. The Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan's final reading on the overall index on consumer sentiment tumbled to 72.9 from 82.7 in November, worse than forecasts for 74.7. It was the lowest level since July and also came in under December's preliminary figure of 74.5.

  UK retail sales weaker than expected in November

  British retail sales failed to grow in November, despite a boost from sales of tablet computers, making it unlikely consumers will give the economy a helping hand in the final quarter. Retail sales volumes were flat on the month to give an annual rise of just 0.9 percent - below economists' forecasts for both monthly and annual sales growth. The figures, which follow a shock fall in retail sales in October, increase the chance that Britain's economy will contract in the last three months of 2012, something the Bank of England has said is likely.
